AFRICAN SCHOOL / About
About
The story behind African School.
African School was established in Oxford in 2009, by Natty Mark Samuels, writer, folklorist and undergraduate astronomer, offering African Studies to the general public. Teaching has taken place in varied settings; schools, community projects, museums, youth clubs, colleges, libraries,
universities, carnivals, botanic gardens and festivals. Since 2020, it has developed a
specialism in folklore. Since January 2025, it has been working towards a specialism in
astronomy: see Betelgeuse Theatre, East Oxford Astronomy Club and Tamarind Galaxy pages.
